Thanks to the Staff for "Math Night"

I attended Math Night at Covington St. Elementary School this past Tuesday night, March 17, 2009, and I would like to thank the instructors for giving us, the parents of their students, their time and effort to instruct us in the new education tools and methods that are utilized in today's classroom. I was really surprised at what I learned and I now have a better understanding on how my child has been doing her homework. I was really getting lost for a while since her newly learned method was different from the way that I had learned math many years ago.

However, the instructors gave us, the parents, what I consider some very disturbing news.

Charlie Wilcher's Eagle Scout Project

Charlie Wilcher recently completed his Eagle Scout Project at Covington St. Elementary School. He went above and beyond his planned project and installed an additional 100ft of fence to completely enclose the perimeter fencing at the back of our campus. Obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout is not easily accomplished and as a former Boy Scout, I know that the Eagle Scout project is a task that requires a lot of preparation and a lot of hard work. Thank you Mr. Charlie Wilcher, your project has improved Covington St. School.

A great time was had by all participants! A few photos are online.

Please visit the Camp Inventions Website to find out more about this program. For more information regarding future participation in "Club Invention", please contact Sharyl Gross, Camp Director, by e-mail sgross@scsnc.org, for more information.

School or Delay Notices

Whenever the likelihood of inclement weather (ice or snow) exsists, school admninistrators stay in close contact with the city police, the highway department, North Carolina Highway Patrol, The Scotland County Sheriff's Department and officials from surrounding school districts. The decision to cancel school or open school later than normal is made as early as possible. Such decisions are generally made by 6:00 AM and our local media are immediately notified. The dceision is made by the superintendent. Information concerning school operations in inclement weather will be announced on the following stations (Local radio stations are always notified first.). In addition to notification of the local media, information regarding school closing or delays can be found on our website.Scotland County Schools. Scotland County Schools has installed a telephone notification system which will be used to contact parents at their home or work with pertinent school information such as weather related closings or delays.

Local News Channels:

Channel 5 News

WZFX, Fayetteville (99.1 FM)
WQSM, Fayetteville (98.1 FM)
WKML, Fayetteville (95.7 FM)

Because telephone lines are crucial during these times, parents and students are urged not to call school, central office, or radio stations to ask about school closing, If no media announcement is made the assumtion is that school is operating on a regular schedule.
